Karumadi is a small village in Alappuzha district of Kerala in India, renowned for its ancient black granite statue of Lord Buddha known as Karumadi Kuttan. 
Location
The statue is Situated about 3-5 km east of Ambalappuzha near Punnamada Lake, the site offers a serene setting amid greenery and backwaters. 


The Statue
The 3-foot-tall statue, dating from the 9th to 14th century AD, depicts Buddha in a meditative pose but is partially damaged, missing its left hand; it was rediscovered in the 1930s from a nearby stream. 
Significance
Karumadi Kuttan stands as Kerala's only major Buddhist pilgrimage site, protected by the state's Archaeology Department, and draws devotees for its believed healing powers, especially during Buddha Purnima celebrations.
Karumadi, home to the Karumadi Kuttan statue, lies about 3-5 km east of Ambalappuzha, which is 14 km from Alappuzha town, making it a short 20-30 minute trip. 
How to reach 
By Road
Take a taxi, auto-rickshaw, or private cab directly from Alappuzha bus stand or railway station; the fare is around ₹130-₹240 and covers the roughly 15-20 km distance.
 By Buses
Buses run to Ambalappuzha, followed by a short auto-rickshaw ride to Karumadi village. 
By Water
Sail via backwaters from Alappuzha through routes like Alleppey-Kumarakom, offering scenic access amid lakes and canals near Punnamada Lake. 
By Train 
No direct trains to Karumadi; use Alappuzha or Ambalpuzha railway station then local transport. Travel early to avoid peak heat, as roads are straightforward through rural greenery.
Ambalappuzha KSRTC Bus Stand serves as the nearest major depot to Karumadi, located just 3-4 km away.
